Geiranger

The beauty of the Geiranger Fjord is so ethereal and magnificent that it is almost impossible to describe. We thought the first fjord was majestic but each one has been unique and more spectacular than the last. They call this fjord the diva and most secret of fjords. It has a cascading waterfall each new turn and it is difficult to decide where to take a photo as we cruise the rocky faces, narrow and steep in some places and wider with green clearings and cabins in spots you would least expect. At the end of the fjord is a tiny village of 300 that caters to the tourists, souvenir shops for the ships, a few hotels, a caravan park and a ferry that brings in cars and tour buses. It has its own Viking ship and more than one very suspicious larger than life troll. At the top of the first winding road is an interpretive centre that looks at traditional life in the fjords, with hay drying racks, and the typical old structures, crafts and knitting as well as transport and crafts. Walked around for several hours then sat on the top deck of the ship and soaked in the sun. We have been so lucky with the weather. Heard the most amazing music as we waited for the sun to set close to midnight! Probably had the nicest evening yet! So relaxing and perfect! Anita thinks we probably know more of Norway than Grandpa ever had a chance to explore.
