Alesund

At the mouth of Stor fjord north of Bergen. About 40,000 people in this city of 3 connected islands. A Norwegian version of Venice with quaint canals and great clothes shopping. The architecture is different from Stevenger. They had to rebuild city centre after fire pretty much levelled it in 1904. Very unique fishing town now! They say it is a mix of Art Nouveau and traditional Norwegian styles. Anita and I fell in love with the ornate but folksy painted buildings.
