More Copenhagen

I am in love with this city....
We navigated the S trains, bus, and train system fairly well once we initially got our questions answered. Erik found the Zoo to be what he remembered yet different. He was not disappointed. They are doing something right there as there are so many babies: hippo, giraffes, Siberian tigers... In almost every enclosure was a baby. Great day, great set up which is animal friendly, public viewing friendly and really kid friendly. Then we walked through the park Erik used to walk to work every day and found his old apartment on Pile Alle. A woman, Anastasia, was just exiting to walk her 2 dogs and she walked with us, talked about her apartment and the neighborhood. Had traditional Danish fried fish with beer for supper sitting on Erik's old street outside in the lovely weather. Checked out Carlsburg Brewery and the elephant bridge. Walked back to the S train and stopped for coffees in this hidden little garden restaurant and Erik found a store that sells sausage and cheeses. He picked some spiepolse and esrom up for later. We would have a really stinky hotel room if it were not for ziplock bags and the bar fridge. Oops, bar fridge not working....

Erik's old apartment.

Elephants at Carlsburg Brewery.

View from our Copenhagen Island hotel. The white dot in the water is another swan.

Decided to stay another day in Copenhagen especially since the jazz festival just happens to be on! Nothing could have been more perfect than this! Today we grooved to four great bands as we wandered. Picked up a GPS for the car in the mall next door since it was almost the cost of a new GPS to rent one for a week. Now we have a Europe version.
Explored the other side of the canal in Christianshavn and Christiania. Climbed the tower at the top of Our Savior's Church. 398 stairs... Many of them spiraling outside. This was a challenge for me as I am not the most comfortable with heights, but I did it! What a view! All of Copenhagen at our feet. The windmills, the Christiania Commune, Malmo Sweden, Amager (crap island), Tivoli, Christianborg Palace, Nyhavn and the rest of downtown.
Will give you more tomorrow. Have to tell you especially about Christiania, it was a beautiful hell hole....
Never been anywhere like it before in my life. Also our best Danish meal in Christianshavn.
